2024 Ford Mustang Review
The 2024 Ford Mustang comes with an evolved iron skin and brings an array of advanced technologies and new features for enthusiasts. However, some things never change. The Mustang still features the 5.0-liter V8 engine, rear-wheel drive, six-speed manual transmission, and all of the unique qualities that have solidified its status as an iconic vehicle.
The turbocharged 2.3-liter base engine, and the 5.0-liter unit we mentioned earlier, remain part of the powertrain lineup. However, there are additional details about the engines that have yet to be disclosed, as Ford is hesitant to divulge information regarding horsepower, torque, or fuel efficiency.
The 2.3-liter EcoBoost unit is “all-new”, while the 5.0-liter engine represents the fourth generation of the popular Coyote V8, which now boasts twin airboxes and a dual throttle body.
When it comes to transmission, the four-cylinder Mustang now only uses an automatic gearbox, after only 10 percent of customers agreed to the presence of the EcoBoost-six-speed combination in the final years of the sixth-generation model.
While the 10-speed version comes standard in those models, the manual transmission will be used as the base gearbox for the V8-powered Mustang (which represents more than 40 percent of sales).
And, as previously reported, both gearboxes send power to the rear axle only. In addition to the powertrain revisions, there are also new enthusiast-focused technologies.
One of the most interesting is “remote engine revving”, which allows customers to start their car and rev the engine via a key fob. There is also a new electronic drift brake that offers a bit more practicality.

The customizable display can be tailored to the preferences of most patriotic drivers, with a variety of colors, gauges, and a “calm” screen that only displays essential information. The driver’s display and ambient lighting automatically adjust according to the chosen drive mode.
The entry-level Mustang comes with cloth seats and the option to add micro-suede vinyl inserts, while the Premium level includes stitched features on the dashboard and door trim. Leather inserts are included in the Mustang GT.
Additionally, Ford has introduced a Remote Rev feature that allows the engine to rev up by simply pressing a button on the key fob, providing drivers with the opportunity to admire the Mustang’s distinctive engine sound from outside the car.
New Mustang Engine and Performance
The latest version of the Mustang features an improved EcoBoost engine that is turbocharged and has a 2.3-liter four-cylinder capacity, generating 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.
This represents a gain of 5 horsepower compared to the previous model, although it falls short of the 330-hp output of the previous generation’s EcoBoost Performance engine. All EcoBoost Mustangs come with a 10-speed automatic transmission, but the Mustang GT, which still offers a 5.0-liter V-8, is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission as standard.
The Coyote V-8 engine from the previous generation produced 450 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, whereas the new engine is rated at 480 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Ford claims that by installing an optional performance exhaust system, the output can be increased to 486 horsepower and 481 pound-feet of torque.
The all-new Mustang Dark Horse model is a high-performance variant based on the GT model, specifically designed for track use, and comes with a 500-hp 5.0-liter V-8 engine, which is available with either a 10-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
