If you’re late for the party, let’s get back to speed. Offered between 1970 and 1991, GMC Jimmy was the GMC version of the K5 Chevy Blazer before being replaced by GMC Yukon. Although GM no longer officially offers the Jimmy, some enthusiasts are still demanding a modern relaunch of the SUV nameplate.

Enter Flat Out Autos. As GM Authority previously discussed, Flat Out Autos has a number of interesting GM-flavored builds, including the modern K5 Blazer present at SEMA. Now, this custom auto workshop aims to offer this modernized GMC Jimmy.

Based on the same platform as the contemporary GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X, the new modernized GMC Jimmy will feature a two-door body style that utilizes the basic truck’s single-cab body style. It seems that this custom vehicle will also incorporate a removable rear roof section and rear seats, as this rendering shows.

Obviously, this should be a miracle in rough things, especially with the basics of the GMC Sierra AT4X.

In addition to the customs body, it appears that Flat Out Autos will offer many optional extras and bespoke details, including a custom wheel and tire package, suspension upgrades, roof racks, lighting fixtures, and more. Gasoline and diesel power plants will be offered.

This rendering was completed by digital automotive artist Oscar Vargas (@wb.artist), who posted renderings to social media to give us an idea of what’s in store.

Rumors reveal it in full for Jimmy’s custom GMC is expected for the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, a great place to unveil this handsome new SUV.

The full price information is still to come, but we’re expecting something good up to six figures, with some very limited production numbers to match.

2022 GMC Jimmy Specs

The GMC seems content to let the sixth-generation Ford Bronco fight the Jeep Wrangler on its own. The company left this market segment decades ago, but an Arkansas-based maker called Flat Out Autos brought Jimmy back for the SEMA 2022 event.

Modern Jimmy largely reflects the Sierra 1500 which is based from the end of the front bumper to the b-pillar.

Beyond that, Flat Out Autos added a redesigned quarter panel, removed the partition between the cargo box and cabin, and installed the rear seats. It also developed a removable, body-colored hardtop that carried the silhouette of the truck in line with the second-generation Jimmy.

At the rear, the versatile MultiPro tailgate remains, and Jimmy keeps Sierra’s rear bumper with an integrated stroke to every corner.

Overall, the conversion looks really good. We believe GMC can sell a lot of this if it decides to return to the segment. The interior is mostly Sierra style, although the front seats tilt forward, and the carpet lines the cargo box and the inside of the rear door.

Flat Out Autos hasn’t released any technical details yet, so there’s no word on what’s powered by Jimmy. More details will probably be announced in the weeks leading up to the SEMA 2022 event, which opens on Nov. 1, and Flat Out Autos plans to build 25 units.

New Jimmy Concept

Flat Out Autos in Jonesboro, Arkansas recently published a recreation of GMC modernized Jimmy who now sits gorgeously and is all set to debut at the upcoming SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

For readers who may not be aware of it, we obtained this related information from the GMC SUV Models site which states that the GM Authority has been following the 2022 construction of the modern 2022 Jimmy from Flat Out Autos throughout the year with the store initially revealing rendering images for the project in January.

Jimmy’s GMC nameplate has a special place in the hearts of many enthusiasts. It was first introduced in 1970. Jimmy is the classic K5 SUV Chevy Blazer GMC version, with production lasting until 1991 when GMC Jimmy was replaced by GMC Yukon.

Of course, despite the discontinued, fans have always wondered what the modern GMC Jimmy looks like. As it turns out, Flat Out Autos has made exactly that. The store started with a new GMC Sierra 1500 Single Cab/Long Bed pickup then cut it into a 5-foot, 8-inch bed with actual unibody construction.

Folding rear seats were added at the rear, while the roof was removed to provide an open-air experience, as desired. With the roof attached, we saw a large enough rear glass section with the right proportions and lines to make this rig a modern GMC Jimmy.

GMC Jimmy will be on display at the Flat Out Autos booth (Central Hall Booth #24675) with the 1968 International Travelall Restomod.
